Hugh Brian Haney pled guilty for selling illegal drugs on the dark web platform – Silk Road

A former narcotics dealer, Hugh Brian Haney, pled guilty for selling illegal drugs on the dark web platform, Silk Road. As per the prosecutors Haney, who happened to be one of the sellers in the marketplace, used the platform to sell drugs all over the world and laundered more than $19 million in profits through cryptocurrency. He was actively involved in the trafficking of fentanyl, oxycontin, and the sale of other narcotic products.

It was reported that in 2017 and 2018, Haney sent his Bitcoin earnings from an address connected to Silk Road and his crypto exchange account.

While Manhattan federal court claims that Haney had earned Bitcoins from dark web platform – Silk Road, Haney denies about any wrongdoing and says that he legitimately earned Bitcoins through mining and trading.

Haney (61), who is currently in federal custody, is set to be sentenced in February 2020. He was arrested in July 2019.
